Braai Patio Progress

Initially the entertainment patio was enclosed with an aluminum structure. It was also level with the garden and the inside elongated sunken lounge. The sunken lounge leading to this patio area was filled, to be level with the rest of the house, to improve the shape and flow inside of the house. As a result, we decided to use the excess rubble to build up the patio level to match the levels of the newly raised lounge floor. This decision created a lovely flow from inside the house onto the patio.

We extended the patio area 1.5 m beyond the fireplace and the roof was also extended to match this. This was done to create a stair walk off to the side and back of the house and garden. We built plastered brick pillars with wood extensions to support the roof.

We removed the green fiberglass roofing and replaced it with opaque white ‘polycarb’ panels to improve the green colour reflection and also to let in a cleaner white light.

The simple pillar design was inspired from this picture of a National Parks Board accommodation ad.

The original aluminum enclosure was removed and sold.
